One of the most common issues physicians have while creating requisitions is that they find retyping patient demographics information burdensome and inaccurate. The bridge was created so that physician offices would never have to retype information that already existed on their Practice Management System (PMS).
The bridge is a mechanism that connects to a PMS and retrieves patient demographic information from the PMS and auto-fills the laboratory system’s requisition form. By using the Bridge, Physician office personnel do not have to go through the time consuming process of filling up forms while ensuring Data Integrity so the latest patient information is available at all times while creating requisitions. Clients are also very happy using the Bridge because it generally takes a fraction of a second to retrieve the patient demographic information and auto-fill the requisition form
When laboratories receive requisitions that are created using a bridge it guarantees that the data is as accurate as it could get since it is coming directly from the physician’s system. This means that if the data in the physician’s office is accurate, the laboratories will also receive accurate data and when the laboratories submit insurance claims using the accurate primary and secondary insurance information, hence reducing billing errors and ensuring that claims submitted to insurance companies get processed.
When the physician office personnel create requisitions they have the option of typing in a patient ID. The patient ID used is a unique ID that resides on the host PMS system. It can be either a Chart Number, Social Security number or the patient ID assigned by the PMS. Once they enter the Patient ID and click on the button to retrieve that patient’s demographic information, the request is forwarded to the Bridge. Once the Bridge receives an incoming request, it connects to the local database and runs a small query to extract the following information:
- Patient Demographic
- Patient Guarantor
- Patient Insurance
- Insurance Address
This process ensures that the information that exists in the PMS is used while creating requisitions.
- Data Accuracy: Data used in creating requisitions is the same as data in physician’s PMS.
- Saves Time: Physician office personnel do not have to go through the time consuming process of filling up forms.
- Data Integrity: If the insurance or demographic information of a patient changes at anytime, the Bridge will ensure that the latest information is used.
- User Experience: Clients are very happy using the Bridge because it generally takes a fraction of a second to retrieve the patient demographic information and auto-fill the requisition form.
- Clean Orders: By using the same data that the physician office uses for creating requisitions, the bridge ensures that the demographic and insurance data is always clean hence reducing paperwork and increasing efficiency.
